In 1992, Christopher Columbus landed on a large island he called Hispaniola.
He believed he had discovered the Indies, and naturally called the people who lived there “Indians”. Little did he know that these people had been living there for 2,000 years, and had named themselves Taïno, which in their language means “good”.
