Work of Rest

In Work of Rest, he examines the unique itinerancy associated with artist residencies. The project emerged from his experience in a residency in South Korea, where his personal need for rest conflicted with the organization’s expectation for artistic output. To navigate this tension, Jin Heewoong issued an open call for proposals and chose a participant to whom he outsourced his work. This "traveler" was sent to Manila with specific instructions on which photos to take and where. By positioning himself as the “resting-artist”, Jin critiques the art world’s systems of selection, funding, and contractual obligations.
