Galerie Old Chelsea is pleased to present “Beyond People & Places” an exploration of memory, place, and human presence.
Roy Brash’s approach is impressionistic, with an emphasis on an expressive brushstroke to explore colour, light and texture.
Many of the landscapes in this exhibition are rooted in Brash’s travels through the Pontiac region in the Outaouais during his younger years. Its forests, waterways, rocky shorelines, and shifting light left a lasting impression within him.
Rather than attempting to faithfully reproduce a specific place, he draws on these memories to evoke the area’s character and atmosphere.
Over time, Roy increasingly introduced people into his landscapes. A solitary figure beside the water, a group gathered on a dock, or someone gazing toward the horizon can transform the mood of a painting, inviting the viewer to experience the moment bringing their own memories to the work.
The guiding thread of this exhibition is the idea that both people and places carry stories within them.
— Vernissage on November 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
