Adélard presents Part of the Landscape, a group exhibition spanning both floors of the barn and bringing together new works by seven artists exploring the legacy of slavery and the historical presence of Black communities in Brome-Missisquoi.
Drawing on research conducted during residencies at Adélard, the exhibition uses archival documents, personal accounts, and observations of the local landscape as starting points for the artists’ critical and imaginative interpretations of the past. Through drawing, painting, photography, collage, printmaking, embroidery, installation, video, sculpture, and writing, the works examine overlooked aspects of history, stories of emancipation and enslavement, migration, and the lasting traces of 19th-century colonization.
