Come discover the exhibition The Other Side by artist Masako Miyazaki, featuring images that seem universal but are not found just anywhere—transcending time, space, and culture.
This series is born from a simple gesture: walking alone through unfamiliar places and observing them. In cities such as Montreal and elsewhere around the world, I collect everyday scenes that often go unnoticed, moments without names that escape existing categories. By connecting images made in different locations, I seek to create a visual experience that transcends the boundaries of language and perception.
In this series, many of the images are composed with a gaze directed into the distance, as if contemplating “the other side.” This “other side” is not limited to physical distance; it also encompasses time, memory, and inner experience. It is within this in-between space that I position myself, exploring through photography the relationship between perception and consciousness.
