This selection of short films and video loops by Vijay Masharani sequences together a glossary of images that are both disparate and dense in meaning.
Out of this string of signifiers emerges an ambience ornamented by the visual annotations of technocracy, colonial regimes, racial violence, and violence against the ill. The artist’s varied applications of phone cameras, partially stitched 360 video, pencil drawing, and 3D animation are indifferent to technological spectacle and high-production values. More gestural in their approach, the works outline the question: what is worth our limited amount of time?
