Following the virtual disappearance of traditional blacksmithing practices in Quebec and in the absence of means of preserving and transmitting the know-how of this heritage trade, it seemed important to create a place where it would be possible to preserve , disseminate, transmit and update the blacksmith profession.
The non-profit organization Les Forges de Montréal was therefore founded in 2000, with the mission of perpetuating the existence of the intangible heritage of traditional forging.
In order to succeed in its mission, the organization coordinates activities with the general public and artisans of all ages, allowing them to observe, explore, understand and practice the blacksmith's profession.
